Community conservation engagement
Dr Hazel Nichols and her research group are also working on community conservation and wellbeing projects in the UK and in Uganda. These include:
- Creating a Community and Wildlife Garden in a Swansea Village in 2020
- Raising approx. £2000 for Ugandan communities living close to the Banded Mongoose Research Project site to help them through the Covid situation in 2020
- 'Nature-based solutions to promote wellbeing and sustainability', which engages Ugandan and Welsh children with their local biodiversity and facilitates cultural exchange between children of the two nations: CONNECTING WALES AND UGANDA THROUGH NATURE - Home (weebly.com)
- Developing community engagement collaborations to reduce human-nature conflict, working with Yowasi Byaruhanga, Dr Jessica Mitchell and Dr Kevin Arbuckle. We are using community engagement methods and animal behaviour knowledge to reduce snakebite incidences in rural Uganda
